In February this year, Google was activating 60,000 Android smartphone handsets a day. Now that number has grown to more than 300,000. Earlier this week Samsung revealed that it has shipped three million of its Galaxy S smartphones in the US alone, for example.
Meanwhile HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and other manufacturers have been racking up plenty of sales with their own Android devices. In comparison, Apple sold 14.1 million iPhones in the third quarter of this year – around 157,000 a day – although a true comparison would need to factor in iPod touch and iPad sales (as well as Android tablets and devices).
